WORTHY OF A QUEEN
For the opening of the exhibition "H.K.H. Crown Princess Mary 1972-2022" revealed a beautiful portrait of Queen Mary, which was painted by the resident, Spanish-born artist Jesús Herrera Martínez, where the queen is portrayed sitting elegantly in the iconic Fried Egg chair from Hans Olsen. It is a great honor for Warm Nordic that Fried Egg has been chosen for the portrait as a symbol of Danish design.
Read more about the portrait at the National History Museum and the museum's website.
A ROYAL TRIBUTE
On the occasion of H.K.H. Queen Mary's 50th birthday, the Queen opened on 3 February 2022 the special exhibition "H.K.H. Crown Princess Mary 1972-2022" at the National History Museum at Frederiksborg Castle, where the renowned Danish architect Hans Olsen (1919-1992) has received a very special award. Here, pictures, portraits and objects tell the story of the Queen and her importance to Denmark.
In Denmark, we are proud of our furniture craftsmanship, which is largely rooted in the fine balance between tradition, innovation and craftsmanship of the 50s and 60s. It was in this range that Hans Olsen worked, and his playful experimental expression therefore came to characterize his series of design icons.
AN ICON OF DANISH DESIGN
When Hans Olsen designed the Fried Egg in 1956, the shape was created with his playful approach to design work. The chair beautifully encapsulates the trends from the 50s, when many of the iconic pieces of furniture we know today were created.
The silhouette is asymmetrical and with characterful lines and soft curves, the chair manages to add edge to any home. The shape creates spaciousness and the flat armrest opens up the world, while inviting you to rest comfortably and nonchalantly.
